Warm, dry and sustainable
New Zealand homes are incredibly damp, and dampness makes a home pretty inefficient to heat. The more heat you put in, the more money you pay out – but it doesn’t have to be this way.
Creating a drier home environment through proper ventilation is the first step towards better energy efficiency. But there are other factors we need to look at to get us heating more sustainably too.
Choosing the most effective, efficient and economical home heating system for your home is the final piece in the puzzle. Energy efficiency is a big focus for us in our product selection and development – for both heating and cooling. With our range of clever and effective products, we can help you make things more comfortable and sustainable – for your family and for your budget.
How it works
- HRV’s Heat Transfer system is designed to balance temperatures in the home in the most efficient way possible
- It does this by taking advantage of existing heat sources and making them work harder.
- Whilst one room in particular may be heated comfortably, other rooms in your home might be colder than you’d like.
- The HRV Heat Transfer system uses a large fan and insulated ducting system to take the latent heat from a primary heat source and pushes it to other areas of the house that require a change in temperature.
- The HRV Heat Transfer system is fully integrated with our core ventilation system so you can intelligently manage your invironment.
- The result is a much more efficient use of your heating and a balanced, purer invironment overall.

The Wards moved into a house three years ago that suffered from condensation and mould. When they decided to leave the HRV ventilation system on all day they got rid of their damp problem immediately, without a noticeable spike in the power bill. Now they’re enjoying a healthy, dry home.

I just want to thank Russell and the installation team at HRV Nelson. They did a fantastic job from start to finish. After researching various systems and calling and emailing multiple providers, Russell was the only person to get back to me within 24 hours. He understood what we needed and explained the various options thoroughly - a true professional. The team that came to install were friendly, efficient and knew what they were doing. We had been having problems with a warm lounge due to the wood burner but very cold bedrooms. Since we've installed the system the whole house is now warmer as air is transferred to the colder rooms. We've also noticed a remarkable improvement in the bedroom windows which used to have a lot of condensation on them. If I'd know that the HRV system was going to work so well, I'd have installed it sooner. It has been the best investment that we've made this year.

We just bought our first home we was so excited, but once we moved in we noticed the damp window stills the damp air at night when you took a deep breath, we also had a terrible moldy musty smell in the master bedroom, it was so bad we stored all our household goods in the garage, had the house professionally cleaned, but the smell came back, we called Roy from HRV he was great he did a moisture test he explained how a HRV system would change this, so we bought one, it was amazing not only did it take away the dampness and stop the damp window stills it took away the bad odor we also had no water on the inside of our windows in the mornings wow,
being so happy with HRV and now coming into the colder months of winter we rang our trustee HRV Sales agent Roy, he suggested a Heat transfer system, again wow amazing all the kids rooms where now as warm as the lounge, not only did the heat transfer help warm the house we noticed it helped remove dust particles from the busy lounge as it sucked air from the lounge to a filter system before going to the rooms,
So amazed with HRV and our better healthier quality of living we went onto their website to see if there was anything more we may like, we was keen on the water purifier as you never really know whats coming through the pipelines, we liked what we read so we had this installed through our agent not only do our friends envy our tasty water from all taps on the property our sons eczema has healed up, our house and garden plants are thriving, you really do notice the difference Thanks HRV.
My partner does night shift and having to try and sleep through the hot days of summer is so unkind when you know you could make life more comfortable for your loved one, After talking with Roy our HRV Agent and now a good friend we had a HRV heat pump installed in the master bedroom far out amazing its so quiet, its perfect, my partner now enjoys longer and more restful sleeps, i also no longer toss and turn at night because of the hot evenings.
we have dedicated this year to making our home a more healthier and comfortable place to live thanks to HRV.
We will spend the next few years paying it off but it was really worth it and the HRV team are awesome they worked hard and got the jobs done fast with no hassles.
we have 5 children and work average jobs, through Roy we made what seemed impossible happen
Thanks Roy your amazing
We moved into our dream home in 2009. Situated in Rangiora, North Canterbury - the front part of our house was 100 years old, with an added 3 bedroom wing built in the 1980's. We had a mix of different external cladding, internal lath & plaster, gib, wooden and concrete floors. The house felt damp from the outset. I remember the first power bill, due to a very cold winter and pathetic inset log burner was $800.00 for the month! Our first approach was to install good insulation and a log burner. The next, was the installation of a heat pump in the bedroom (children's wing) of the house. The power bills remained very high and the house (especially the bedrooms) very damp. We had mold growing on the kid's shoes, curtains and carpet. The heat-pump worked continuously through the winter with no real change to the air temperature. All of the kids rooms had single glazed windows and ranch sliders. They were saturated with condensation every morning to the extent of puddles appearing in the slider tracks and carpet and window sills... We then looked at installing double glazed windows for all of the 'problem' areas. This was at a cost of around $12,000.00! I was researching condensation and came across HRV. After a meeting and explanation of the 'physics' behind condensation and their system , we were sold. We had the largest system installed, due to the size and length of our house, and waited with anticipation to see it's supposed miracle cure. When we woke in the morning (middle of winter), we were 'gob-smacked' that there was literally NO condensation on the windows. We thought, maybe we were experiencing a balmy winter morning, so waited with anticipation for the next day... We have had NO condensation on our windows from that day!!! Our heat-pump works far more efficiently because it is now heating dry air. Our power bills have dropped significantly and we have even experienced slight cracks in our walls due to the house 'drying out'. The cost to install our large system was way under half what we would have spent on double glazing, which we understand now, would only have disguised our moisture problem.. If anyone is thinking of installing HRV, just DO it! The thing by far that we have ever spent on our home.
